There’s only one size for both desktop and mobile, just need to understand the safe zones for mobile devices.
I would also recommend to download the design in 2x or 3x size. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

I thought maybe it was the size of my desktop computer screen, but mobile looks terrible as well. What am I doing wrong? I am using the default theme, not some fancy theme. I upload the banner using the Edit Appearance option, but it appears to be the incorrect size and gets cut off. What gives?
